Germany-based discount grocery chain ALDI opened the doors Thursday to its second store in Anderson County.
The more than 19,000-square-foot store, located at 624 Highway 28 Bypass, represents one of the company’s latest designs, with about 12,000 square feet of floor space and five aisles.
It includes expanded sections, a “robust” fresh produce selection, bright colors, high ceilings, natural lighting, and environmentally friendly features, such as recycled building materials, energy-saving refrigeration, and LED lighting.
“We know Anderson residents are looking for a great value and quality groceries they love,” said Thom Behtz, vice president of ALDI’s Jefferson division, in a statement. “By offering quality exclusive brand products at affordable prices, ALDI is the answer to customer’s needs. Whether shoppers are looking for USDA Choice meats, organic fruits and vegetables or gluten-free options, we have them covered with an unmatched combination of great-quality products and everyday low prices.”
ALDI’s other Anderson store is at 4115 Clemson Boulevard/US RT 76.
The company said it is in the midst of an accelerated growth plan intended to bring its number of U.S. stores to 2,000 by the end of 2018.
ALDI said it currently operates more than 1,600 stores in 35 states that serve more than 40 million customers each month.

Its stores feature staples like bread, dairy products, and fresh produce. ALDI also offers a selection of organic items, USDA Choice meats, the liveGfree gluten-free product line.
The company touted its SimplyNature line, which it said is free from 125 artificial ingredients and preservatives, and the Never Any! line of meats free from antibiotics, added hormones, and animal byproducts.
“To better serve customers and their growing families, ALDI now carries a full line of baby products, Little Journey, which offers customers award-winning diapers, wipes, training pants, formula, organic food and snacks,” the company said in a statement.
ALDI said all of its exclusive brand foods are free of added MSG, certified synthetic colors, and partially hydrogenated oils.
The company has a Double Guarantee, which means if a customer doesn’t like an ALDI exclusive brand food for any reason, the company will give them their money back and replace the product.
ALDI did not disclose how many jobs were created for the new Anderson store, but said it offers wages above the national average for retailers.
Part-time ALDI employees who work at least 25 hours per week receive full health insurance benefits and dental coverage. All employees can participate in the company’s 401(k) retirement program, the company said.
The store will operate from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
