A third Tropical Smoothie Café in the Upstate will open early this fall at 3701 Pelham Road next to Moe’s Southwest Grill in the former Sprint store.
This is the second of six franchise locations two former executives for Spartanburg-based Denny’s Corp. plan to open in the Upstate.
Bill Ruby and Greg Powell’s first location opened March 25 at 2815 Woodruff Road in suite 102 of the Village Market East shopping center near the Lowes Foods in the Five Forks Area of Simpsonville.
The Upstate’s first Tropical Smoothie Café opened in Greenville at Woodruff Road and I-85 on March 18. It is owned by John Wickey.
The restaurant chain, whose motto is “Eat Better. Feel Better,” is considered a healthier alternative to fast food. Menu items from smoothies to flatbreads to wraps can be customized for particular dietary needs, such as vegan and gluten-free.
“We felt strongly that it would resonate with the Upstate customer looking for a healthy, fast dining alternative in a fun, relaxed atmosphere,” Five Forks co-owner Greg Powell told the Greenville Journal previously. “We also think that Tropical Smoothie Cafe will be particularly attractive to the many young active families in the Upstate.”

Both Greenville-area locations are celebrating National Flip-Flop Day, June 16, by giving away a free Sunshine Smoothie in a 16 oz. 20th anniversary souvenir cup to anyone wearing flip-flops into the stores between 2-7 p.m. No strings attached.
