M.J. ‘J.’ Huggins III was appointed chief executive officer with the Southern Bank.
He has nearly 40 years of experience in community-banking leadership.
Huggins served as director of credit-risk management at United Bank. He also worked in executive positions with Crescent Bank, later CresCom Bank, and leadership roles at Carolina First Bank and C&S Bank in Atlanta.
He serves on the board of the Business Development Corp. of South Carolina, as well as the Wall College of Business at Coastal Carolina University.
Higgins is a graduate of Coastal Carolina University and LSU Graduate School of Banking.
