Captain D’s opened its second restaurant in Spartanburg County on Monday. The store is in the former Bojangles’ at 4004 Highway 9 adjacent to Boiling Springs Centre.
Captain D’s opened its first restaurant in the county in November at 1451 W.O. Ezell Boulevard.
Michael Arrowsmith, chief development officer for Captain D’s, said the company plans to open several more stores across the Upstate during the next few years. The next store opening will occur this summer in Easley, he said.
“We see tremendous opportunity in the Upstate,” Arrowsmith said. “It is an underserved area, particularly for the products of our brand. We have received a lot of inquiries from customers in the area who want to know when we will be coming to their communities.”
Arrowsmith said each store typically employs between 25 to 30 people. The company also has an area director and a franchise director in Greenville.
He said the company is still looking for franchisees to partner with. For now, the company is leading the way by opening corporate stores.
Arrowsmith said the focus on the Upstate is a result of the company identifying a gap between its markets in metropolitan Atlanta and Charlotte, N.C.
“We’re very excited,” Arrowsmith said. “It’s a great area. There is a lot of growth, but it’s not the overwhelming growth of an Atlanta or Charlotte. There are a lot of positive things happening in the [Upstate].”
The nearly 3,600-square-foot store in Boiling Springs will showcase Captain D’s remodeled beach design, as well as a drive-thru.
The company said it plans to host a ribbon cutting at the store with Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce officials at 9 a.m. Thursday.
As of Monday, the company said it had 517 restaurants in 26 states. For more information, visit www.captainds.com.
