The former Local Taco location on Augusta Road that closed in the fall will reopen at the end of March as The Common Cure, a neighborhood bar and grill, says owner John Ko.
The menu will include burgers, sandwiches, and salads, and Ko is adding 10 taps on the bar for local and popular brews.
“I surveyed a lot of people in the area, and this is what the market wanted,” Ko says.
The restaurant’s name is a nod to the building’s original identity as Campbell’s Pharmacy.
“I wanted to play on the old pharmacy idea,” Ko says.
Ko says he’s making minor cosmetic changes in the space, but nothing major, in order to get the restaurant open as quickly as possible. One addition is a ping-pong table that can be pulled out any time.
“My friends and I really like to play,” Ko says.
Ko, also owner of Oakblue Kitchen on Main Street, sold the Local Taco chain, which he started in 2009 in Nashville, to Halo Restaurant Group last year. After Halo closed both Greenville locations in 2016 (the other is on Pelham Road), Ko managed to work out a deal to get the Augusta Road restaurant back.
“I selfishly wanted to do something there,” Ko said. “I live nearby and a lot of my friends do too.”
Former Liberty Tap operating partner Marc Connolly joined Ko in December and will be overseeing operations for Oakblue and The Common Cure.
