GlenCove’s new pool and spa designed with intention
Nestled in beautiful Cashiers, North Carolina, is a new addition to the Old Edwards Inn family: GlenCove, a multigenerational adventure wellness community. The amenity-rich development includes hiking trails, organic farms, golf courses, bowling – and, of course, a state-of-the-art swimming pool and spa.
“We wanted a swimming pool that was both exercise-friendly and child-friendly,” says Jerry West, Director of Operations of GlenCove and Old Edwards Club.
Those were the main parameters given to the team at Genco Pools & Spas, with whom Old Edwards Hospitality Group has worked for many years.
Dan Ball, vice president of Genco, headed up the project and saw it through to completion from start to finish.
“I met initially with Jerry to talk about Old Edwards’ vision for the project and what the purpose would be, and from there we put together a conceptual idea,” Ball says. “I took that and refined it and we made adjustments, adding amenities and features until we had a finalized plan.”

Working on a tight timeline, Dan and his team worked tirelessly to bring that plan to fruition, which was no small feat, considering the sheer size of the commercial project, which also included a 14,000-square-foot deck made of individually placed pavers, in addition to the pool and spa. In just three months, Genco completed construction on the zero-entry pool — named thusly because sloped entries allow for people of all ages and abilities to enter, much like they would enter the ocean by stepping down the slope of a beach. The main feature of the pool consists of a splash pad for the kids and a 25-yard lap pool for the adults.
The pool has been incredibly well-received by everyone who uses it.
“Everyone loves it,” West says. “Its purpose is to serve multiple generations with a variety of activities, whether it’s water aerobics, lap swimming in the morning, children playing in the afternoon or dive-in movies on Friday nights – all of those things were accounted for prior to the construction of the pool and as each event occurs, the thought process and the planning that went into it is evident.”

GlenCove’s heated mineral pool is one of the larger commercial projects that Genco has tackled, and it wasn’t without its challenges. Coordinating a project of that size in such a small amount of time takes an incredible amount of expertise and skill – not to mention the creativity required to safely delivery materials to the job site, which was located in the mountains.
“Experience speaks volumes,” West says. “Genco tackled our project as if it were their very own pool, and we couldn’t have been more delighted with their service.”
