The Ellington, a 50-unit, age-restricted affordable housing community opened Nov. 1 at Magnolia and Ridge streets in Spartanburg.
Open only to adults at least 55 years old, the community was built through a partnership between Douglas Development, Schaumber Development and the Spartanburg Housing Authority. In addition, the project was financed through investment from RBC Capital Markets, South State Bank and Centrant Bank, as well as low-income housing tax credits administered by the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority. The community also offers rent targeted to those at 50% and 60% of the area’s average median income.
“Our goal and mission are to provide seniors with high-quality communities at an affordable price point, and that is exactly what The Ellington delivers,” said The Ellington’s co-developer Drew Schaumber of Schaumber Development. “We’re excited to be part of the preservation and enhancement of the Northside neighborhood and have enjoyed working closely with the city and neighborhood constituents to ensure the Ellington fits well within the community.”
