Mr. Crisp is the latest concept from the team behind The Anchorage, bringing a casual seafood full-service restaurant to the new Overbrook Village at 1501 E. North St.
The restaurant, which opened its doors over Memorial Day weekend, pays homage to classic coastal seafood shacks, both in terms of its bright atmosphere and its menu.
Diners can expect the typical fare of any seafood joint, upscale or not — oysters on the half shell, for instance, or peel-and-eat shrimp. Mussels, fish sandwiches, fried oysters and more also grace the menu, which is helmed by chef de cuisine Alex Morgan, with Emily Makowski serving as front-of-house manager.

But if the restaurant’s name gives any indication of where its focus lies, Mr. Crisp has a special emphasis on crispy fish and chips, inspired by Executive Chef Greg McPhee’s early years spent at fish-and-chip joints in Toronto.
Fans of hush puppies should also take note, as Mr. Crisp’s roasted chili and pulse honey butter hush puppies have a solid claim for some of the best in the state.

For those wishing for a more upscale experience, the menu also offers caviar service at market price, wreck fish ceviche and steak tartar.
Mr. Crisp’s menu can also veer into unexpected territory for a sea food concept — Indian chicken tikka jalfrezi, for example, made with Charleston gold rice and cucumber raita, or a roasted lamb shoulder sandwich with green tahini slaw.
Mr. Crisp is open Wednesday through Saturday 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.
