6AM City, a local media company based in Greenville, announced Dec. 5 it has acquired Austonia, an Austin-based local media company, for an undisclosed sum.
Austonia was founded by Mark Dewey and reports on the news and events in Austin, Texas, to its 20,000 newsletter subscribers.
“When we were expanding into Austin, the media company that most reflected our own model, ethos and commitment to community was Austonia,” said 6AM City VP of Expansion Michael Mazzara. “It’s serendipitous that we are bringing the two together to better serve Austin,”
Following the acquisition, Austonia’s daily email newsletter and website will become part of 6AM City’s Austin brand ATXtoday. Dewey will also serve in an advisory capacity to 6AM City supporting the transition of Austonia to ATXtoday.
The acquisition from 6AM City, familiar to Greenvillians for its popular GVLtoday newsletter and social media brand, comes as the company recently moved its headquarters to Poe West in the Village of West Greenville following years of rapid growth.
