Jones Oyster Co., the new restaurant concept from Table 301 dining group, is set to open in January in the spot at 22 E. Court St. that previously housed Soby’s on the Side.
The new concept is smaller in scale compared to Soby’s, which sits adjacent to Jones Oyster Co. First off, that means no reservations will be accepted. Instead, diners can expect a walk-in, casual vibe within the 40-seat interior space, which is designed to replicate the coastal feel of New England oyster houses.
The menu is also more focused, with a special intentionality with regard to seafood. Expect oysters in all varieties — chilled and raw oysters on the half shell, oyster shooters, fried oyster po’boys, and grilled gulf oysters served in a large platter with bread, parmigiano-reggiano, herbs and garlic butter. All oyster varieties will be posted on a wooden slab board behind the cozy bar, showing what the daily selection is on hand.
The menu is rounded out with plates like shrimp Louie salad, Lowcountry crab rice, lobster rolls, fresh-catch fish sandwiches and more.
The name of the restaurant pays homage to the Jones Furniture Co., which occupied the space in decades past.
