Construction of The Commons Phase II is well underway with leases for 18 new tenants expected to be signed in the next few weeks, according to Drew Parker, founder and principal of The Parker Group.
This phase is expected to move the project closer to the vision for The Commons to become one of Greenville’s premier gathering spots and more integrated with Unity Park and the surrounding community, Parker says.
Phase II construction is expected to be complete by late spring or early summer next year and will see seven new food and beverage tenants in an expansion of the existing food hall.
The new space will connect to the current food hall through what is now a meeting room that will be converted into a corridor that Parker envisions will accommodate pop-up booths for community nonprofits to provide information about the services they provide.
Office space

Phase II will also incorporate 11 office spaces, including a critical new health and wellness tenant that will offer needed services to the surrounding community, Parker says.
He explains the development of Unity Park and The Commons are part of a much bigger effort to revitalize what was historically a neglected part of Greenville’s downtown. He says being part of that effort has been exciting and rewarding.
“We set out to create a community gathering spot,” Parker says. “Some of the critical components of what we want to bring here are yet to come.”
With a Phase III of The Commons in the earliest planning stages, Parker says he expects interest in and use of Unity Park and its surrounding area to grow.
“I think 10 years from now we’ll see so many other exciting things,” he says.
