A local Italian eatery with a familiar name has replaced 4 Aces Kitchen & Cocktails.
Capri’s Italian Restaurant opened in the former 4 Aces location on Pelham Road in Greenville on Jan. 8.
Tipsy Taco founders Roger Carlton and Trish Balentine have teamed up with Dennis Evans, the owner of the Capri’s location in Boiling Springs. That restaurant initially opened in the 1940s and is considered an Upstate mainstay.
Carlton and Balentine felt 4 Aces had gotten away from being a more family-friendly venue and saw the Italian restaurant as a way to return to that.
“[At 4 Aces] We didn’t have a lot of families coming in,” Balentine said. “And that’s just what I’m about – being involved in the community aspect of it. And so with Capri’s, I really think we’ll bring it back to that kind of environment.”
The atmosphere at 115 Pelham Road will be first-come, first-served, except for two private rooms that seat up to 14 guests. The two rooms will serve family-style dinners for larger groups.
The bar will remain and incorporate wines-on-tap, offering by-the-glass, half-carafe and full-carafe options. The business will also have a curbside to-go element.
Guests can expect a menu similar to the Boiling Springs location, with some significant differences. Pelham Road will have a stronger seafood focus, adding options like mussels and scallops while maintaining traditional Italian fare.
“It’s just the name. I’m 66 years old. When I was in my 20s and 30s, Greenville wasn’t like it is now. We didn’t have that many places to go have dinner and all that,” Carlton said. “But that’s just where I used to go a lot. Anybody from Greenville that’s my age … they totally know about Capri’s.”
4 Aces will close after Christmas Eve. Starting Jan. 8, Capri’s will be open Sunday through Thursday, 4 to 9:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 4 to 10 p.m.
