Coffee and art are a classic combination. Downtown Greenville will soon see that collaboration in action.
Flying Fox Coffee will add a location on South Main Street, taking up its second residence in Open Art Studios. Its first is inside Cartwright Food Hall in Greer.
Flying Fox’s co-owner, Jeremy Hartman, described the walk-down gallery as a hidden gem, tucked between eateries and various shops.
Gallery owner Ashley Brickner has held the spot since 2018. Brickner felt adding a coffee shop would make the studio more appealing to the masses while continuing to encourage a welcoming atmosphere.
Brickner lives in Greer and admired Flying Fox’s marketing material and approachable ambiance. On a day when she was hanging up art in Cartwright Food Hall, she presented the shop with the idea.
Hartman owns the shop along with his business partner, Jaime Hinckley. The two coffee proprietors had already been looking to spread into the Greenville market. Hartman said the move was a no-brainer once they checked out the spot and discussed goals with Brickner.

“Ashley’s very big on creating a space where people can come together and work together and find common ground. And that’s always (been) our culture as well,” Hartman said.
The space’s interior will have flairs of Hartman’s and Hinckley’s personalities. Hartman hinted that the space may have a punk rock vibe upon completion. Although the vibe may differ from its original location, the homemade syrups and house-crafted coffees are there to stay.
Flying Fox Coffee is slated to open at 14 S. Main St. in downtown Greenville in March.
