A statewide initiative between public and private partners to promote healthy workplaces held the latest in a series of launch events in Greenville March 25.
The South Carolina Healthy Business Coalition aims to boost workplace health and wellbeing through the collaboration of businesses, health professionals and allied organizations.
During the Greenville event, founder Susan Johnson said the coalition’s beginnings stretch back more than a decade to the Healthy Business Challenge initiative started in Charleston. She added the response from the business community highlighted a demand for more education, resources and coordination that ultimately led to the creation of the coalition.
In welcoming the coalition’s launch, Greenville City Councilman John DeWorken said the statewide initiative aligns with Greenville’s ongoing efforts to foster a healthy and thriving community.
From its parks and trails to its sidewalks and bike lanes, the city has put tremendous effort into making a healthy community where opportunities to live, work and play outside are abundant and easily accessible.
Greenville Chamber President and CEO Carlos Phillips said improving workplace health and wellbeing is an investment in a business’s greatest asset, its people. Healthy employees not only helps ensure business success but contributes to the health and vibrancy of the communities in which those businesses operate, he said.
