Corley Plumbing Air Electric service technician Kenny Camp is used to making people comfortable — after all, that’s what Corley does. But while on one service visit in August, Camp took that mission to a higher level as his quick thinking helped a woman who was in medical distress.
In a recent interview, Camp explained that he was following up on plumbing work being performed at the woman’s home.
“I wasn’t initially supposed to be there,” Camp noted. “I just wanted to check up on my guys and see how the work was going. I also went to check up on the customer and see how she was doing with the noise from the work.”
Shortly after arriving, however, Camp realized everything was not OK.
“She came out, we sat down and got to talking, and she got quiet,” he recalled. “She started to faint on me.”
Camp, a Navy veteran, fell back on his military training and performed a sternum rub, reviving the woman. Camp then applied cold compresses, and the woman was transported to the hospital after saying she “felt weird.” Camp said she was treated for dehydration and released after a period of observation. During that time, however, Camp also helped ensure the woman’s dog would be OK.
“She had a puppy outside, and I’ve got a thing for dogs myself,” he said, “and the guys were going to be there for another day, so I told them to leave food and water for the dog.”
The woman would enjoy a complete recovery and is now back at home with her dog.
Mitzi Ott, president and general manager of Corley Plumbing Air Electric, said Camp is “the epitome of a Corley hero. We’re extremely proud and grateful for his fast action to help a customer. He did the right thing, and he probably saved our customer’s life.”
