Here’s a recap of the Feb. 3 meeting of Greenville’s Design Review Board Urban Panel:
Approved: New outdoor bar and restaurant area for Ice on Main courtyard
A new outdoor bar, dining area and fireplace will soon take over a portion of the courtyard at Village Green in front of the Courtyard Marriott in downtown Greenville.
But fans of United Community Bank Ice on Main, the annual skating rink that has occupied the courtyard for more than 10 years each holiday season, need not worry.
Ice on Main will be back next year, according to Windsor Aughtry, the commercial real estate company which hosts the skating rink.

Because the planned bar and dining area is tucked back far enough in the courtyard, there should be plenty of room for the skating rink next year, while the green space will remain open to the public for the rest of the year.
The plans for the bar and dining area that were approved by the city are slightly different from original plans submitted to the city weeks earlier.
The design of the outdoor roof was adjusted to become a single structure, as opposed to two angled and disjointed segments, while the fireplace will be gas-burning. The edges of the bar area were also “softened,” according to the new plans, to create less of a barrier between the bar and the public space.
Approved (with conditions): Augusta Road rooftop restaurant, bar and green space
A new development planned for Augusta Street will bring an outdoor plaza with green space, office space, rooftop restaurant and bar space and more to the West End.

The still-unnamed mixed-use development by Patel Hines Development (PhD) and leasing company Spencer Hines Properties, will take over what was once a parking lot beside Eggs Up Grill and adjacent buildings.

In plans submitted to City of Greenville’s Design Review Board Urban Panel, property owner Krish Patel sought approval for site improvements that include the outdoor plaza space with both hardscape and artificial turf, planters and outdoor seating, as well as shade sails and a small raised stage for outdoor performances.

One aspect of the design that raised concerns was the possible noise brought by the outdoor area, with its stage for performances and potential for large crowds, and how that would impact shows at the Warehouse Theatre, which is adjacent to the development site.
The plans are contingent upon the developer initiating a dialogue with the owners of the Warehouse Theatre and coming to an agreement regarding coordination of outdoor events with show times within the theater.
