Agulus, a Greenville-based agriculture tech company, is set to launch its online marketplace on Sept. 30.
The publicly accessible marketplace will be the first widely available version of the company’s core product, according to founders Mathew Sanford and Glen Watson. The new digital space will allow agricultural stakeholders — the brokers, buyers and sellers — to easily and quickly facilitate the purchase of goods or services.
“You log in with your username and password, enter a few details about who you are, your business name if you are a business, and then enter what you’re looking for, and the system immediately starts matching you with people on the other side,” Sanford said.

The company founders have already lined up “tremendous support from a number of cities and companies within South Carolina agriculture,” according to Sanford.
Unlike more ubiquitous marketplaces such as Amazon and Google, Agulus offers no opportunity for the prioritization of sellers. In other words, no one is able to pay money to put their products in front of others.
“We serve the buyers and sellers in the marketplace, but we don’t intervene,” Watson said. “Our intent is to stay completely non-biased, and we have no intention of ever modifying the algorithm to allow for paid preference.”
