The Atlanta-based brewery looking to set up shop in Greenville’s West End has unveiled plans to create a new beer garden beside the Old Cigar Warehouse at 912 S. Main St.
New Realm Brewing, which announced plans to open a Greenville location last year, has submitted initial designs to the City of Greenville’s Design Review Board (DRB) Urban Panel.
The plans have yet to be approved or rejected by the board; that vote will be held at its next meeting June 2. But the broad strokes of the design feature a full interior renovation of the Old Cigar Warehouse, minor exterior renovations and, most notably, the creation of a beer garden in the grassy lot beside the warehouse.
The Old Cigar Warehouse was previously occupied by High Spirits Hospitality, an event venue popular for weddings and corporate events, which has relocated to the Judson Mill development.
The grassy lot beside the warehouse was previously used for events like the annual Tacos & Tequila, corporate events and wedding receptions.
Now if New Realm’s plans are approved, the proposed beer garden will feature green space, an outdoor stage, an outdoor dining pavilion, outdoor entertainment area, fireplace, firepit and two shipping containers for storage. The outdoor dining pavilion will also feature an enclosed kitchen and restrooms.
The plans come after months of discussions between New Realm and local residents, who raised concerns over noise, crowds and disruptions to the downtown atmosphere.
New Realm agreed to a few stipulations in response to the concerns, including:
- Moving a planned outdoor stage further away from a nearby residential building and from paved surfaces might amplify the sound.
- Adding noise-canceling structures around the outdoor beer garden.
- The inclusion of a dedicated and reserved valet parking lot.
