South Carolina Research Authority’s investment affiliate, SC Launch, announced July 19 it made a $300,000 investment in Bubble Paper, a company based in Williamston.
The funding will be used to continue the production of the company’s curbside-recyclable and biodegradable packaging materials.
“Bubble Paper is transforming the packaging industry by providing packaging materials that provide the same level of physical protection and temperature control that current plastic alternatives have at a comparable cost,” said SCRA Investment Manager Steve Johnson. “Many areas of the country, including several counties in South Carolina, have already banned plastic foam insulation used to keep food cold and protect products in shipping. This trend is likely to accelerate over the next decade and Bubble Paper is uniquely positioned to leverage this movement.”
Bubble Paper became an SCRA member company in 2018 and an SC Launch Inc. portfolio company in 2019. It has received several types of funding from the organization, including:
- 25,000 project development fund grant – 2018.
- $50,000 acceleration grant – 2019.
- $300,000 investment – 2019, 2022.
