The drills are whirring and the light is peeking into Curean in downtown Greenville.
Led by Vickie Zambrano, a veteran of the Greenville restaurant scene, it will be Greenville’s first build-your-own charcuterie experience. It is expected to open after Thanksgiving at 732 S. Main St, the former location of Sabor Latin Street Grill, that closed in Aug. 2023.
Zambrano comes from a Greek family and her grandfather owned Palmetto Fine Foods on Laurens Road. Restaurant ownership was a natural next step.
“I thought it was something that Greenville was missing,” Zambrano said.
The eatery will also feature a small-scale wine bar, elevated Mediterranean-inspired small plates, pizza, craft cocktails, mocktails and gelato. The restaurant will also offer “bark-cuterie boards,” or charcuterie boards for dogs.
“You’re going to have options. So if you want to go through the wine or if you need to go back to work, or if you want to get something for the park,” Zambrano said. “Or if you want to dine in and have lunch or dinner with us, we’ll have table service.”
Boutique catering will be available.
“Nothing goes better at a bachelorette party with champagne than charcuterie,” chef Austyn McGroarty said.
Sandwiches will be offered on house-made focaccia.
“I want to say probably 95% of this menu that’s coming out of this kitchen is going to be made here,” McGroarty said. “And that’s not only made here but sourced within 100 miles of here.”
Curean will bring in both local cheeses and charcuterie from abroad and focus on natural wines, working with Greenville-based Mission Grape Distributors.
“All our wines are coming from small, family vineyards,” Zambrano said. “For me, that’s important to know. Like, what is in that bottle and what’s the story behind it? Who’s the family? Where are their grapes from?”
