After nearly 50 years, Greenville dinner theater Cafe and Then Some will close in 2025. The final curtain call was announced on social media.
“The Cafe has been home to many over the years. There have been a lotta laughs (and tears) here throughout the nearly five decades our doors have been open. That being said, it’s now time to go dark. We hope that you can come on down and share the moment with us as we say goodbye,” the post read.
Cafe and Then Some’s troupe first gathered in 1978 with a group of friends including husband and wife duo Bill and Susan Smith and Ted Bruce, performing acts from England’s Beyond the Fringe and some original work at Walt Chandler’s Sandwich Shop. Back then, they were called Beyond the Fringe and Then Some, later dropping the British revue’s name. In 1983, they opened Cafe and Then Some at 101 College St. in downtown Greenville documenting the city’s cultural happenings and zeitgeist with a laugh ever since.
The theater will run through its current show, White Trash Lotus, a Christmas show and Best Of show.
