A new faith-based organization has opened on Greenville’s Main Street.
Christ on Main held its grand opening June 4 bringing a mission to explore topics and encourage discussion surrounding Christianity and Catholicism to the city’s downtown.
The business opened at 14 S. Main St. in the space once occupied Dark Corner Distillery, which shuttered in 2020. The grand opening gave visitors a chance to check out the new shop and hear a little bit about how it came to Main Street. Bishop Jacque Fabre-Jeune of the Diocese of Charleston blessed the space.
The business serves as a storefront of Veritas Catholic Information Center (VCIC), a nonprofit started by lay Catholics in the Upstate.
“We want Christ on Main to be effective in sharing that there is a reason for why the saints lived their lives the way they did and there’s a reason behind the beautiful art that the church produced in their buildings – in their music, paintings, literature and more,” said Robert Poppleton, vice chair of the board of directors of VCIC.
“This will be a place of prayer, formation of activities and a place to experience beauty.”
Visitors of the space can expect events beginning in July, including educational activities about Saint Mary Magdalene and a Liturgy of the Hours. For those hoping to donate or attend activities, options are posted on its website along with upcoming events. Additionally, a gift shop and book store will be coming this fall for guests to buy Christmas and advent supplies.
