The East Coast Women in Consumer Finance luncheon took place Aug. 13 at Poe Mill Music.
The event was sponsored by the music studio’s affiliate business, Investinet. Investinet is a debt collections agency located in an adjoining suite within Poe Mill.
Women in Consumer Finance is an organization aimed at giving women a space to collaborate, support and share experience in the consumer finance field. The organization was founded in 2018 in Baltimore, Maryland. Since then, the group has held annual conferences in various locations to foster further areas of collaboration.
Although the organization has one large conference each year, it hosts regional events throughout the year. The regional conferences are relatively new, with Greenville being among the first.
The event at Poe Mill Music featured keynote speaker Kylie Felker, president of Foster Victor Wealth Advisors. Foster Victor is a Greenville-based financial planning firm located at 10 Toy St. near Cleveland Park in Greenville.
Felker led a discussion inspired by tech entrepreneur Cheryl Sandberg who, in 2010, held a TED Talk about women in leadership positing the concept of bringing your own chair to the table. Felker’s discussion took it a step further, challenging the room to consider the various tables they are part of and allowing members to chew over unique experiences. As the discussion went on, common ground was found throughout the room.
“Shared experience is like a lifeline,” said Lisa Rozzelle, director of Women in Consumer Finance. Rozzelle said the organization offers a network of support that goes beyond networking into advocacy. “We talk about things we can’t talk about in some other rooms and then we leave, we can go out fortified with a network that’s got our back.”
The group’s next conference will take place Nov. 10-12 in Charlotte. Poe Mill Music is located at 904 Pinckney St., north of downtown Greenville.
