Sprouts Farmers Market opened in the North Hills Shopping Center near the corner of North Pleasantburg and East North Street in Greenville on Sept. 27.
Its format and layout differ from the location in Simpsonville, which opened in 2018.
“We wanted to keep it more of an intimate experience,” said Courtney Schrauben Haik, senior public relations specialist with the brand.
The new format began launching in 2020 and employs a smaller footprint, downsizing to about 23,000 square feet from previous 30,000-plus-square-foot floorplans.
What to expect at Sprouts Greenville
As in all Sprouts locations, you’ll find the produce at the center. Seasonality is a priority and the presentation is thoroughly thought out. According to store manager Mike Billingsley, 80% of produce is purchased visually. With that in mind, the store’s wet rack is designed with color breaks to make it easier for shoppers.
The Greenville location has shorter, wider aisles. The goal was to hone in further on the farmers market atmosphere so guests may feel like browsing for their purchases was more of a treasure hunt.
Last year, the grocery enjoyed attention online for its Sprouts sandwich, a turkey sandwich with provolone, lettuce, tomato and mayo on sourdough with chips and water for $5. Recognizing the success, the business wanted to emphasize the grab-and-go component with the new location, placing it up front and next to the deli.
Customers will also find new-for-you and bulk department aisles. The new-for-you aisle holds items kept in stock for just a few months. New items can be found throughout the store and are marked by an orange tag. The bulk department displays an assortment of dry goods snacks, which reduce packaging and plastic usage.
Along with the rebrand, the market has been working on its private labels including supplements, snacks and beauty products. It’s important to note that Sprouts knows it isn’t a one-stop-shop for groceries and doesn’t carry all major brands, such as Coca-Cola products.

The store hired 82 employees in August. Billingsley relocated to Greenville in July after transferring from a Sprouts location in Raleigh, North Carolina. North Hills Shopping Center is owned by Aston, which operates several shopping centers in the Greenville area and recently purchase a majority stake in The Commons.
